The First Post

I'll probably write mostly about design.

But I might also write about growing up in a fishing village of 1,500 people in northern Iceland, living in 20 different apartments before I turned 20, studying and later teaching in Florence, moving to Boston for work, becoming a US citizen, and trying to build a few things of my own.

I've spent the past 20 years working across many areas of design, from graphic design and motion to websites, interfaces, and digital products. In 2010, America's Test Kitchen recruited me from Iceland to Boston, where I led digital design, including the launch of what became the world's largest online cooking school. I later spent eight years at TripAdvisor, leading design for Flights and then Bókun.

I also built a life in Boston and became a father to three boys there. I may write about that too.

Professionally, I now divide my time between Frímann and Ubezon. Both keep me busy and give me plenty to write about.

So there will be things here about design, technology, products, and the decisions that shape them. Some posts will be practical. Others will be more personal.

I'll write in both English and Icelandic, depending on the subject and whichever language feels right.

There is no publishing schedule or grand plan. Just a place to collect a few things that feel worth writing down.
